I’m Riikka, the force behind Move Nordic and INWA qualified Nordic Walking Instructor.
I created Move Nordic to share my passion for Nordic Walking, a unique full-body workout using 90 per cent of your muscles whilst enjoying the great outdoors. The perfect stress-busting and wellness combination.
I was born in Finland, the land of the midnight sun, northern lights and the home of Nordic Walking. I first tried Nordic Walking when I was only 10-years-old. In the summer heat, I found myself in a training session with my ski poles which I used in the winter when competing in Cross Country Skiing.
Tyre tied to a rope and the rope tied to our waist, off we went pushing our selves forward with the help of poles. This was extreme summer training for cross-country skiers and how ultimately, Nordic Walking was born (without the tyres)!
After a childhood and teenage years competing in cross-country skiing, then more seriously in athletics, I moved on to jazz and hip-hop dancing and teaching fitness classes before moving to London.
In London I found myself in a busy and demanding career as a PR and Communications specialist. Movement and exercise in nature was my solace, integral to my overall wellbeing.
Nordic Walking has been part of my journey keeping me fit and happy along with yoga, cold water swimming, running and stand-up paddle-boarding. I love trying new ways of keeping my body moving and my mind calm. I want to bring this ethos into everything I do and encourage people to give Nordic Walking a go.
I'm proud to bring Move Nordic to people, who want more out of their workout and to increase their overall sense of wellbeing. If you want to move your whole body and burn more energy whilst enjoying the changing seasons around you, mindfully, then Move Nordic is for you.
I might even bring a tyre to one of the sessions for a laugh!
